RYOBI Tools

RYOBI Tools is the signature brand at Techtronic Industries (TTI) and a huge portion of the work the team at TTI’s in-house agency, Torque Creative did was in support of that brand. Shortly after I arrived at Torque in 2013, we embarked on an overhaul of the RYOBI Tools web site, and it wasn’t very long after that we started all over again.

…and again

…and again.

Designing and supporting the RYOBI web site presented several challenges. The Power Tools group and the Outdoor Equipment group each had their own priorities, and it was crucial that we met their objectives while still maintaining coherent communication.

RYOBI has multiple product lines, sub brands and branded technologies within those sub brands, and some branded technologies that span across various sub brands. It’s all very confusing!

I helped create countless landing pages to educate consumers on the latest in power tool offerings and technologies.

RYOBI Nation began as a social share site, where users of RYOBI products were invited to share their home improvement projects or crafts made with RYOBI tools. We began to pepper in How-Two projects created in-house, and with influencer partners. In the end, the site evolved into exclusively how-two projects, eliminating the end-user content, and so required a complete overhaul.

I am currently in the middle of a complete web site overhaul. I threw this site’s most recent incarnation together pretty quickly, and before I was finished, I managed to find full-time work, and so finishing things to my satisfaction became less of a priority. Since then, I have changed my mind about how I was presenting my work on here, and so it became necessary to throw most of it away and start over. There’s still a bunch of work on here, but it’s not very focused. I’m fixing that. If you jump around the site, it might seem like some things are more finished than others. Hopefully I’ll be able to get things buttoned up in short term. A lot of the work will go away, at least for a while, while I focus on presenting fewer, but more comprehensive projects. Pardon my dust, as they say.
